The university was founded in 1947, as Sacramento State College. The need of a four-year university in Sacramento dates from 1920. In 1960, the Sacramento College became a part of California State University, and in 1972, the current name was settled.
The Cal State Sacramento Campus is the 6th large campus out of the 23 California State Universities, covering an area of 300 acres.
